Rear glass is different from a front windshield
Rear windows are commonly tempered glass and may break into many small pieces. Some vehicles use laminated rear glass. Defroster grids, antennas, spoilers, trim, cameras, wipers, liftgate hardware, and moldings can affect the correct part and installation steps.
Share the vehicle year, make, model, body style, VIN, and whether the glass is in a sedan, hatchback, SUV, pickup, van, or liftgate. Mention tint, antennas, defroster elements, cameras, wipers, or embedded electronics.
After the glass breaks
Keep people and pets away from loose glass. Do not run the rear defroster or operate a damaged liftgate when wiring, trim, or glass remains exposed. Covering the opening may help temporarily, but tape and plastic can damage paint or trap moisture if used carelessly.
